Google launches Chrome for Android

Google has announced the launch of a beta version of its Chrome web browser for Android. According to the company, Chrome for Android is “focused on speed and simplicity”, for example, when searching, the browser will load the top search results in the background so that pages appear instantly when the user clicks on a link.

Chrome for Android Beta is available from the Android Market in twelve countries including the UK, US and Germany, for smartphones and tablets, such as the Galaxy Nexus, that run Android 4.0 ”Ice Cream Sandwich” .

The mobile browser beta is based on version 16.0.915.75 of its desktop counterpart and includes a number of similar features.

Using a Google account, users can synchronise and access open tabs and bookmarks from Chrome on their desktop.

The mobile version’s auto-complete feature benefits from sync as well and provides suggestions for sites that are frequently visited on the PC.

Google has also incorporated several special features into the Android version of Chrome that are designed to simplify browsing for smartphone users, for instance, users can switch between tabs using gestures. The “Link Preview” feature automatically zooms into a page when the user tries to access a link, making it easier to select the correct link.

Adobe has confirmed that, as it is no longer developing Flash Player for mobile browsers, Chrome for Android Beta will not support Flash content; the current built-in Android browser does support Flash.
